Meet our Founder + Venetian Plaster & Microcement Specialist, Stephen
With over two decades in the industry, Stephen lives and breathes Carlier & Co. His passion for the industry, the craft, his collaborators and every client he works with is evident in every project the studio undertakes.
Trained in the countryside of Surrey, England, Stephen carries forward a proud family tradition as a master plasterer. His early career specialising in restoration and remodelling saw him contribute significantly to the careful renewal of stately manors and heritage buildings, honing a rare and refined skill-set and well-developed knowledge that informs every contemporary project he touches.
Stephen’s approach blends precision with personality. His presence on-site brings warmth, positivity, laughter and a sense of ease. It’s this balance of technical excellence tempered with warmth and approachability that defines Stephen’s work and enduring quality of every surface he touches.
His motto: “You don’t need to be serious, to be taken seriously.”

With over two decades of experience, Josh brings a quiet mastery to the art of Venetian plastering and microcement. His career has been shaped by a commitment to craftsmanship, continually refining his technique and evolving alongside material itself. For Josh, Venetian plaster is not simply a finish but a medium, one that demands patience, precision and an intuitive understanding of space.
On site, Josh is known as much for his easy-going nature, as for his skill. He brings a good sense of humour to his work paired with a calm, steady presence that puts others at ease. It’s this unassuming confidence, built on years of experience that allows his work to speak softly yet leave a lasting impression.
